DISTRICT POLICE
COMPLAINTS AUTHORITY
The
Government of Karnataka, in the notification No. HD 208 POSAE 2012, dated:
04-09-2012, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 20C and 20D of the
Karnataka Police Act, 1963 (Karnataka Act 4 of 1964), constituted the State
Police Complaints Authority and District Police Complaints Authority, the
authority for the purpose of exercising such functions and discharging such
duties as may be assigned to it, by or under the said act to the State police
complaints authority and District police complaints authority.
The
District Police Complaints Authority shall look into complaints against police
officers of and below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police and take
cognizance of allegations of serious misconduct by the police officers, which
would include incidents involving death, grievous hurt or rape in police
custody.
The
Authority shall have the power to investigate any case itself or ask any other
agency to investigate and submit a report. The District Police Complaints
Authorities shall submit its report to the competent disciplinary authority for
appropriate action against the accused officers;
The
District police complaints authority consisting of the following
1. Regional Commissioner
of the Region - Chairman
2. Retired Civil Service
officer not below the
rank of joint Secretary to Government. - Member.
3. One person from the
Civil Society - Member.
4. The Superintendent of
Police in charge of - Exo Officio Member
the District. and Member Secretary.
